BELATED THANKSGIVING

I apologize for my absence recently, I've been out of town for a while and have had virtually no internet access.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.

Because I don't live in the US anymore, I rarely celebrate thanksgiving. I guess I thank God everyday for everything I have in my life so there's not a huge need to put one day aside for it. A lot of people, me included sometimes don't realise how much we have, and how lucky we are to have it. There's always someone who has it worse than we do, and if nothing else, we should be thankful that we have something - no matter what it is.

I'm thankful for my girl, my family, my friends, my house, the clothes I wear, the fact that I have a roof over my head and food to eat, I'm thankful for my job, for the people I say hi to walking down the street, for the nikes I put on every day and the 10 miles I run, for my health, my happiness and for the people I love and who love me.

Make every day Thanksgiving.

FATE

Do you believe in fate? Do you believe that everything happens for a reason and that there's nothing we can do to change it? Or do you believe that the decisions we make can change our fate?

I believe in fate.

Until around 5/6 months ago I didn't. I was half and half. I didn't believe in fate but I didn't not believe in it. I just never really gave it any thought. It's a pretty difficult issue to deal with because we're never going to know 100% whether fate does exist or not, we just have to choose to believe or not. It's kind of similar to religion. We don't know 100% whether God exists or not. We can either choose to believe he does, or he doesn't. Neither is right or wrong, it's just our beliefs.

Anyway, I do believe 1 million % in fate. There is a very specific reason why. It's quite a long story but I'll do my best to cut it down.
About 6 months ago, something happened that impacted my life greatly. It was an event that I had dreamed of, but never thought it would happen to me. It was everything I ever wanted and it is something that I'll never forget and will tell my grand kids about when I'm old and gray.  There were plans leading up to this event that didn't happen. When I found out those plans weren't going to happen, I was pretty gutted. I felt sorry for myself and wondered why all the bullshit always happens to me. Anyway, I was forced to change my plans. If I hadn't changed my plans, the life changing event I experienced wouldn't have happened. If I went through with my original plans, it wouldn't have happened. I believe it was my destiny for that event to happen and fate intervened and made it happen.

So basically, when your life seems like shit and you always ask 'why me?' just sit back and relax because whatever is meant to happen, will happen.

Let fate take over.

TREAT HER RIGHT

I pride myself on treating my girl right. Not to big myself up here, but there aren't many guys out there with the old fashioned manners I have. And I'm proud of that.

I open the door for my girl, I carry her gazillion shopping bags for her, I walk on the outside of the pavement when I'm with her, I hold her hand when we walk down the street together, I protect her, I hold her when we're asleep and I'm there for her through all the shit the world throws at us.

I see so many guys not give a shit about the girl they're with, or if they do give a shit they have a very strange way of showing it. Girls like to be taken care of - they might not admit it but they do. I'm in love with my girl and I'm happy to say that I show it.

It's the kind of love where you love everything about the person you're with, even the parts they hate about themselves. I love everything about my girl, and I treat her the way any decent guy should treat a girl.

I think I've shown enough of my 'sensitive' side today, so I'm now going to drink some whiskey and beer like any man should - with my girl.

THROW IT AWAY

About 8/9 months ago I gave up drinking soda. I just threw it away one day and I haven't looked back since.

I was pretty addicted to any kind of fizzy juice - coke, irn bru, anything you can name. I drank it every day without fail and didn't think anything wrong with it at all.
I take good care of myself. I eat right, I exercise and I'm in good shape. Drinking soda on an unhealthy regular basis was the only thing I done that wasn't necessarily good for me. Obviously, there is a lot wrong with it but the issues soda gives you didn't spring to my mind because everyone drinks it so it can't be that bad, right? Wrong.

When coca cola was first introduced it contained an estimated nine milligrams of cocaine per glass. Check the back of your bottle in ingredients you'll see vegetable extracts - coca cola still contains coca flavouring. I don't know about you but I'm not interested in taking lines of cocaine, so why would I want to drink it in my juice? As well as this, soda also increases your risk of obesity, makes your teeth fall out - eventually, and get you addicted to caffeine. Essentially, you are poisoning your body. And, sorry to disappoint you, but diet sodas aren't any better.

Just think about it for a second. Look at the colour of a glass of coke. It's brown. What the fuck are they putting in there to make it that colour? Throw it away. I can guarantee you will feel happier and healthier with yourself. It might take time, but you'll get there.

Once you've given it up, you can't go back. You'll lose the taste for it. Sit in front of me a glass of water and a glass of coke, and I'll take the water every single time.

TRICK OR TREAT

Firstly, I just want to say thank you to everyone who follows my blog. I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoy my posts. I haven't got round to it yet but I promise I'll follow you all back as soon as possible. Thank you, and please keep reading.

Secondly, if you haven't already realised, today is Halloween, so..HAPPY HALLOWEEN. I'm not a huge fan of Halloween to be honest - it just seems like a normal day to me but I do dress up every year and have a good old time (this being just a normal day to me). I don't do the whole thing and go around trick or treatin' - I haven't done that in years and I suspect the next time I do it will be when I have kids of my own who want to get into the Halloween spirit.

Although Halloween isn't a big deal, it's always an excuse to have a good time. So buy yourself a costume and go out and enjoy yourself. Failing that, stay in and watch a horror movie marathon (if you don't like horror films, you can never go wrong with some Rocky Horror).

It's just a jump to the left...

TYPE IT OUT

Why do so many people have a problem typing?

You'd think if you spend so much time on the internet you would learn that there is a proper way to type. This means, capital letters when needed, full stops and any kind of punctuation where required. Why do some people feel the need to put a capital letter at the start of each word? Do you know how ridiculous that looks? Do yourself a favour and lay off the shift key a little.
This Makes You Look Like A Fucking Idiot.

If you type like an idiot, 99.9999% of the time, you are an idiot.

KISS

In 1973 in New York City, four guys - Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer - created one of the greatest bands of all time, KISS.
Their music is timeless and if you've ever seen one of their shows you'll know, they are one of the best live acts to walk the planet.

KISS have proved that rock n roll, as ever, is the way forward.

There's a little bit of rock n roll in everybody:

IT'S ONLY A GAME

Today, there was a pretty big football game taking place in Glasgow. This game being, the old firm game.

Now, I support one of the old firm teams (the one that won today) but as far as my team winning goes, it really makes no difference to my life whatsoever. Yes, it makes me happy for 10/15 minutes after the game, but that's it.

I cannot stand people who act like their sports team is their life. It's all they talk about, it's all they're interested in, and it controls what type of mood that person is in and how they act for the few days after the big game - it's pathetic.
To the people who get so angry after their team loses a game that they don't even have the ability to talk to someone or be in any kind of normal mood, I have news for you: your sports team doesn't keep you, asshole.
When you're lying on your fucking death bed, are your sports team going to help you? No.

I'm all for supporting sports teams (I support two - Rangers and the Yankees) but I can quite easily take defeat. Why? Because it's not my life. I have so many more important things in my life than a football game.

If you're reading this in a shitty mood because your team lost a game this weekend, get up off your lazy ass and get a fucking life!

A LIFE WITHOUT MUSIC IS A LIFE NOT LIVED

I can only speak for myself when I say this, but I would be completely lost without music. I would literally have no idea what to do with myself.

I listen to music every single day, without fail. As I sit here writing this I have my headphones on (beats by Dr Dre - no other headphones come close) with ACDC's 'Highway To Hell' blaring into my ears. When I go to the gym, or out for a run, I never go without my iPod. I put the radio or the music channels on as soon as I wake up in the morning. If someone took that away from me, I'd probably last an hour or so before going insane.

Music is like magic. There's a certain feeling you get from it. Whether it be the sound of the bass through your headphones, the banging of the drums, strumming of the guitar or the lyrics being sung, it gives you something your missing.

You can get lost in the music. It's liberating, calming, and it gives you a sense of belonging. There's nothing quite like being a huge fan of an artist and queuing outside HMV to get your hands on their latest album. One of the best feelings in the world is running home, putting that CD on and listening to each song on repeat for days.

Music is life, without it, I'd be dead.

PS. Chav remakes of good songs is NOT music. It does nothing except make you look like a fool with the worst taste ever known to man.

DO GOOD

Make tomorrow your day to do something good.

It can be anything. Help someone out with something they're struggling with, give someone a good compliment, apologize to someone you've hurt in the past.

If you can think of something good to do, do it.

I guarantee, you will not only feel a lot better about yourself, but the person on the receiving end will really appreciate it.

Give it a try.

DO FRIES COME WITH THAT SHAKE?

Some advice for any guy trying to chat up a girl: DO NOT USE CHAT UP LINES.

What is with chat up lines? Why do people think this pathetic, unoriginal attempt at being funny is going to get them a girlfriend? I have news for you...it's going to do the opposite and you're going to end up going home alone, again.

I work in a bar so I am unfortunately forced to witness the worst chat up attempts take place. I see a guy go up to a girl and say so proudly "When they made the alphabet they should have put U and I together." The girl will usually laugh nervously before returning to her friends and telling them about the complete douche she just had to encounter at the bar.

Chat up lines are so unoriginal and so cringe worthy. Whatever happened to a simple "Hello gorgeous" or "nice legs?" Although these might not be much better, I can guarantee they will do a lot more for you than another tiresome chat up line.

Try and be a bit more original, it will get you so much further.

DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL

Some of you reading this just now might not know what 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is, so let me explain.
DADT is a law in America which stops anyone in the army/military from disclosing their sexuality. If someone is found out to be gay, they will be discharged and banned from fighting for their county.

DADT has been in the news a lot recently which is the reason I'm posting about it today. And I know you're probably thinking "but he's not gay or American so why is he talking about this?" Well let me tell you a couple of things...First of all, my brother is gay. Secondly, I actually am American. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City until I was 10 years old. And although I love Scotland and consider it my home now, I will always be an American at heart and I plan on moving back there someday in the future. DADT therefore affects my family and people close to me.

DADT is wrong. You can't justify kicking someone out of the army for being gay. Both gay and straight can fight the same. People who carry so much hate should be the ones kicked out. Whether you like it or not, homophobia is WRONG.

Open your mind up a bit. Let go of your pathetic hate. We're in 2010.

DADT has recently been suspended in America. It will hopefully soon be repealed which means we won't have to see this law again.
Equality is for everyone - deal with it.

7AM's ARE OFF LIMITS

Why do people insist on doing things to disrupt others so early in the morning? Being woken up this early on a weekday is bad enough, but if it happens on a weekend, I may just have to take action.

If you need something doing on a weekend that is going to disrupt your neighbours, WAIT UNTIL AFTER MIDDAY.

A couple of Saturday's ago, I was asleep in bed when I was rudely woken up by my next door neighbour drilling  a fucking hole in the wall. Normally, this wouldn't bother me so much but I was working until 3am, only had a couple hours sleep and could barely open my eyes at 7am.

Naturally, I went to tell my asshole neighbour to keep the noise down. By the look he gave me, he clearly thought I was some idiot who was up partying all night and sleeping all day in bed with a beautiful lady. (He was partly right, I was in bed with a beautiful girl - she was my girlfriend, not a hooker) but instead of partying all night, I was serving drunk people with cheap alcohol.

The morning is my only time to sleep on the weekends. So keep the fucking noise down.

Happy sleeping.

HELLO.

There's not much for me to say about myself. I'm 23 years old. I'm a student and a bartender.
I enjoy life and do my best to make every second worthwhile.

I was given a uni project to create and maintain an online blog. I'll post about random things, which will hopefully keep you entertained.

Thanks for reading.
